Malaika Sharawat: WTF?

October 31, 2009

wtf

What’s up with Malaika Sherawat’s tummy? is that some sort of a tummy tuck scar (though tummy tuck scars run from hip to hip), or some bad scarring during a lipo procedure gone wrong? or could that be a C-section scar.( these pix were originally posted on TMZ where most readers thought that was a C-section cut). You guys be the judge

Are the Kapoor sisters trying to beat Joan Rivers?

October 31, 2009

sisters

The kapoor sisters have morphed so much over the years that it’s difficult to determine which parts are ‘original’. From the Lipos to the nose jobs to the fillers, to the face restructuring they’ve had it all. I remember not too long ago, Karishma Kapoor used to be referred as “Khusra” Kapoor coz of her awkward features. Now she looks gorgeous. From the above pix, it’s pretty obvious that both the sisters received upper eyelid Blepharoplasty. It’s one of the most frequently performed surgical procedures (heck my friend’s mom had it done) and is used to enhance the upper eye lid area.

Shahid Kapoor’s rules for growing up

October 11, 2009

shahid
Rule #1: Stop smiling. In fact try to have as stern an expression as possible.

Rule #2: Take a trip to the Tanning Salon ( I am curious if there are any tanning salons in India or Pakistan). Or use a self tanner/ bronzer.

Rule #3: Get a set of pecs and biceps. Get a wax before show casing the pecs.

Rule #4: Get a rhinoplasty…… BEEEEP.. okay, this rule seems to have bombed. Seriously Shahid, you had a perfectly nice nose. Why did you get it refined? upturned noses are for white chicks, which you clearly aren’t.

Jokes aside, his nose DOES look better. The change is very subtle. This is one of the best rhinos I’ve seen on a guy.btw rule#1 made it very hard for me to do a before and after comparison since the shape of the nose changes when you smile.

Note: Thanks to my reader Meg for pointing out Shahid’s recent makeover.

Reliable Chemical Peels

October 8, 2009

In my earlier post on Acne scars, I briefly discussed types of chemical peels. The question is what brand of peels are reliable? First of all DON”T ever let a dermatologist/Medical Aesthetician put an unbranded mixture on your face. They are STRONG chemicals and should only be from a reliable company. Here’s a list of brands that should also be available internationally:

1. Obagi . This company rose to fame with their signature ‘Blue Peel’. They have a variety of peels

2. Le Roche Posay: This company was recently acquired by Loreal and is available internationally.

3. Biomedic: Owned by Le Roche Posay, therefore now a part of Loreal. I’ve heard great things about  ’BiocMedic Micropeel’ especially for acne prone skin. (The peel has Salicylic acid which fights acne and removes scars).

4.  Skin Medica: This company is owned by world renowned dermatologist, Dr Richard Fitzpatrick. Their most famous peels are the ‘Illuminating Peel’ and the ‘Vitalize Peel’. I am not sure if this is available internationally.I got the Vitalize done two days ago. Read my progress here.

5. Procyte: Owned by the  parent company Photomedex which also manufactures lasers for aesthetic use.

6. Skinceuticals: This company has a large variety of professional use products such as Peels.

Which Surgeon to Choose??

October 8, 2009

Many readers have asked me which doctors I recommend in Pakistan for cosmetic procedures. I wanted to use this post to talk a little bit about choosing your plastic surgeon.

Contrary to what is advertised by cosmetic surgery centers, invasive cosmetic procedures such as tummy tucks, Rhinoplasty and liposuction are like any other surgical procedure. They aren’t a walk in the park and never painless or risk free. To perform such procedures, the qualified plastic surgeon not only needs to have excellent surgical skills but also a great aesthetic sense. In addition, the surgery needs be performed at a surgical facility with qualified staff and equipment to support the procedure.

The most basic thing to look for in a surgeon is qualification. The surgeon needs to have post graduate specialization in the field of plastic surgery. MS in Plastic Surgery/FCPS in Plastic Surgery/ FRCS or be certified by the American Board for Plastic Surgery. Preferably, the doctor should be a member of the Pakistan Association of Plastic Surgeons as the association does a background check before giving you membership, so it’s a good first step in making your decision.

Qualification alone isn’t enough and the most important thing is the guy’s actual work. You need to look at the before and after pictures of the patients and also get patients’ feedback. A doctor could be very well qualified and a professor at a recognized university but that doesn’t necessarily mean he’s going to be good at doing the actual work. Case in point Dr Jan Adams. A Harvard university graduate and a celebrity plastic surgeon in the USA, he was a regular guest on Opera and hosted a show on discovery health. Very charming, very well spoken and could explain the procedures inside out. Being an avid fan of his show, I watched his cosmetic work and frankly I found it pathetic. The patients paid tons of money and didn’t really achieve what they were looking for and in many cases got botched results. Discovery Health( and the rest of America) finally came to their senses when Dr Jan Adams killed a celebrity’s mom, who was of ill health and had been turned down by several good cosmetic surgeons.

Anyways the point of this gruesome long story was to reiterate the importance of reputation and results. If 10 people tell me that DR xyz is unprofessional and ruined their body, I won’t go to him. Of course if 10 people tell me DR 123 was a dream surgeon and knew what he was doing, I’d definitely consider him. Having had no cosmetic surgery experience, I cannot recommend which surgeon you should opt for. I can certainly provide information about qualifications through some background investigation. What I really need is for my readers to step forward and share their experiences with Plastic Surgeons. Email me your stories/ your pictures, post comments on this post or my plastic surgery forums. But please share your information. It will really help you and others make informed decisions in the future.
