Acne Scars: Options!!!
A reader asked me to recommend a procedure for acne scars. Many of us suffer from acne during our terrible teens and are left with reminder of that in the form of scars. Acne scars can be of different types and in layman terms can be the ‘bumpy’ or ’sunken’/'depressed’ scars. (To see a more detailed classification please go here. The type of treatment that will work on you depends on what type of scar it is, how deep it is and how your skin will react to the treatment.
Bumpy scars are much easier to deal with then depressed scars. The basic idea behind treating these types of scars is to remove scar tissue cells and accelerate the growth of new tissue. With the dead scar cells sloughing off, new skin cells are revealed. For depressed scars, new skin needs to be regenerated in the depressed areas while the surrounding areas need to be ex foliated. Following options exist:
1. Topical Creams: Creams containing Retin-A, Alpha Hydroxy Acids or Beta Hydroxy Acids can help. These will need to be used consistently for a number of months for there to be a noticeable difference. Please wear a sunscreen while using these creams. Skin may begin to peel during treatment( don’t pick on it).
2. Chemical Peels: Light , Medium to Deep peels can be used to treat scars. Consult with your doctor to determine what type of peel you will require. Light peels such as 20-30% Glycolic acids work well over a number of consecutive treatments and have no downtime. Medium Peels such as TCA or 75% Glycolic Acid will also work great and require less treatments, but skin will probably peel alot for a week or so after treatment. I have only mentioned Deep peels so I can clarify that it not a type peel you want to get done. ‘Phenol’ is a type of deep peel and should be avoided at all costs especially in Asia, I honestly don’t know why it’s even sold for facial application. AVOID AVOID AVOID!!!
In my own experience, a light Salicylic acid peel (20%) followed the next day by a Glycolic Acid Peel (50%), once a week for 4 weeks significantly lightened my scars. I will not endorse this treatment to everyone of course. You need to sit down with your dermatologist and determine what is right for you. I will upload a follow up post on some reliable chemical peel companies that you should opt for. It’s difficult to get such information in Asia and my dermatologist was nice enough to discuss some brands with me, some of which I am sure will be available. One word of caution. DO NOT use any creams formulated by the dermatologist( no matter what he or she says). There’s a reason companies spend millions of dollar in researching safe and effective products. Anyways I will provide more details around brands later.
3. Micro Derm abrasion: This is essentially ’sand blasting’ of the skin. This is NOT a good option for acne scars as it only removes dead skin cells and will make little or no improvement to your skin texture or tone. No matter what someone says, don’t go for this option for acne scars. If you have sensitive and acne prone skin, avoid it even more so.
4. Laser Skin Resurfacing: This technique burns the skin surface to create new skin surface. Per a study, this technique is 80% effective in treating shallow scars. There are multiple types of lasers that are widely used for acne scars. The skin can take 2-3 weeks to heel and the patient is advised to wear sun screen at all times. Per mayo clinic, this is the most effective way of getting rid of acne scars. I personally have never undergone this treatment( or know someone who has) so it would be great if you people can share your experience with laser resurfacing and also share information about the doctor you went to. It will really really really help!!!! This is definitely not a department I feel very comfortable giving advice on especially since my dermatologists won’t use the laser on me (as I am Pakistani and all three dermatologists I have been to have been afraid of burning my skin).
5. Punch Techniques: These are surgical techniques used on very deep depressed scars and involve removing the scars and either grafting new skin on it or stitching them up.
6. Fillers: Fillers such as collagen are injected into the scar depressions. These fill up the depressions and make the skin appear smoother. Fillers typically last from 4-6 months.

Acne can affect either teenagers or adults; people may suffer from acne for a long time. It is difficult to identify the exact age group, race, or sex of people who are affected by acne most of all. A big difference can be made by simply washing your face well.

What’s more, especially with the antibiotics, you are introduced to a plethora of other side effects that result from taking an intensive course of Tetracycline, for instance. This stuff actually kills the bacteria in the body that causes spots - but it also disrupts our healthy internal flora, which helps control the build up of spot causing bacteria anyway Within the long run, some patients have reported worse pimple at the end of this treatment.

Virtually anyone who has had a moderate to severe case of acne would like to know the best way to get rid of those ugly reminders of that embarrassing skin condition - the scars that are often left behind. Microdermabrasion has been shown to be an effective technique of superficial acne scars removal.

Although acne tends to cause us stress to a certain extent, most people don’t realize that stress may cause acne as well. There are certain types of acne, which really get a lot worse whenever a person is under an extreme amount of stress. Even a slight change in circumstances that causes a person to be anxious may cause this acne to show up. There are also several other skin conditions, such as rosacea, which tend to get better and worse depending on our stress levels. That is why it is important for you to learn how to control your stress if you’re going to learn how to control your acne.

Replacing Fruits as your source of sweets will be another great choice when dealing with acne. Simple carbohydrates allows the body to become acidic. An acidic body is a great environment for bacteria to produce in your body. Sweets also causes an increase blood sugar regulating insulin. Which causes skin inflammation.

I am a 15 year old high school student, I have had acne since the 6th grade when I was 12. It used to not be that bad, and it would come and go. Then I started getting it on my back pretty bad in 7th and 8th grade. Thats when I went to a dermatologist. Unfortunately he wasn’t able to help me so I just gave up. Then a miracle happend and getting a lot of sun and using an over the counter acne medication it almost entirely went away the summer going into my 9th grade year.

Most acne medications only mask the symptoms of acne and does nothing to stop the real cause of acne. This is why people buy acne products month after month (year after year). And every time they stop using the product acne would come back again and again.

The first step to curing acne is knowing what type of acne you have. This information gives you precious insight to what may have actually triggered the acne outset. Once you know your acne trigger, you are one step closer to removing the acne activator and living acne free.

I had a big problem for many years; I had severe acne and I wish it was only on my face…but unfortunately I had it all over my back, my thighs, my neck and even some on my feet and in my hair!

It’s human tendency to get attracted towards high end medications to cure themselves of any disease. Simple ways always remain hidden somewhere and somebody has to discover them!!! I have been a big sufferer of acne for more than five years until I came across some wonderful ways to eliminate them. Often more than one way are needed to fight acne menace.
June 7th, 2010 at 12:35 AM
It all started 3 years ago when i was 15 years old. I noticed, that there’s too many blackheads and pimples on my face. I started to wash my face more frequently, but it had no use, my acne just got worse. Than my mom bought me some garnier cleanser. I started using this cleanser and it looked like it really works. After one month i understood, that this cleanser doesn’t help me either, it just reduces some redness on my face a little bit. After this i started to search in the internet more information about my problem

This is getting a bit more subjective, but I much prefer the Zune Marketplace. The interface is colorful, has more flair, and some cool features like ‘Mixview’ that let you quickly see related albums, songs, or other users related to what you’re listening to. Clicking on one of those will center on that item, and another set of “neighbors” will come into view, allowing you to navigate around exploring by similar artists, songs, or users. Speaking of users, the Zune “Social” is also great fun, letting you find others with shared tastes and becoming friends with them. You then can listen to a playlist created based on an amalgamation of what all your friends are listening to, which is also enjoyable. Those concerned with privacy will be relieved to know you can prevent the public from seeing your personal listening habits if you so choose.

I’ll gear this review to 2 types of people: current Zune owners who are considering an upgrade, and people trying to decide between a Zune and an iPod. (There are other players worth considering out there, like the Sony Walkman X, but I hope this gives you enough info to make an informed decision of the Zune vs players other than the iPod line as well.)

Between me and my husband we’ve owned more MP3 players over the years than I can count, including Sansas, iRivers, iPods (classic & touch), the Ibiza Rhapsody, etc. But, the last few years I’ve settled down to one line of players. Why? Because I was happy to discover how well-designed and fun to use the underappreciated (and widely mocked) Zunes are.

The new Zune browser is surprisingly good, but not as good as the iPod’s. It works well, but isn’t as fast as Safari, and has a clunkier interface. If you occasionally plan on using the web browser that’s not an issue, but if you’re planning to browse the web alot from your PMP then the iPod’s larger screen and better browser may be important.

Hands down, Apple’s app store wins by a mile. It’s a huge selection of all sorts of apps vs a rather sad selection of a handful for Zune. Microsoft has plans, especially in the realm of games, but I’m not sure I’d want to bet on the future if this aspect is important to you. The iPod is a much better choice in that case.

If you’re still on the fence: grab your favorite earphones, head down to a Best Buy and ask to plug them into a Zune then an iPod and see which one sounds better to you, and which interface makes you smile more. Then you’ll know which is right for you.

Affiliate marketing is tough business; no wonder countless affiliates struggle to make mere pennies. This is a great post with excellent tips for newbie as well as established affiliates.
